Symphony of the Northern Lights

This breathtaking photograph was captured during an unforgettable night in Stokksnes, Iceland, where I experienced a rare convergence of natural phenomena that allowed me to create this image. Known for its dramatic landscapes, Stokksnes is a place where the rugged beauty of Iceland meets the ethereal glow of the Northern Lights. On this particular night, I was incredibly fortunate to witness and capture one of nature's most spectacular displays.

The conditions were nothing short of extraordinary. The water was perfectly still, a rare occurrence in such a dynamic environment, creating a mirror-like surface that reflected the towering Vestrahorn mountains and the vibrant aurora borealis above. The lack of wind, combined with the calm water, produced a flawless reflection that doubles the grandeur of the scene, making it feel as though the entire landscape is floating in a dreamlike state.

To capture this panorama, I had to wade through water ranging from 10 to 30 centimeters deep, carefully adjusting my tripod so that my camera was positioned just above the water's surface. This low angle was essential to achieve the perfect reflection and to fully convey the vastness and beauty of the scene. The final image is a composite of three shots, each taken with a 15mm lens, stitched together to create a seamless, wide-angle panorama that encompasses the full scale of this incredible moment.

The aurora borealis was particularly strong that night, painting the sky with shades of green and purple that danced across the heavens in an otherworldly display. The intensity of the aurora, combined with the tranquility of the water and the majestic presence of the Vestrahorn mountains, resulted in a photograph that captures the essence of Iceland's wild and untamed beauty.

This image is not just a photograph; it is a testament to the patience and perseverance required to capture such fleeting moments in nature. It represents the perfect balance between preparation and serendipity—being in the right place at the right time, with the right conditions, to witness and capture something truly extraordinary.
