The Story
Behind the Shot
This striking panorama was created from a stitch of five vertical frames, each captured with a 15mm lens, at one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls - Seljalandsfoss. This waterfall is renowned for its unique perspective, allowing visitors to walk behind the cascading water and witness the world through a curtain of mist and flow.
On this particular evening, I was fortunate enough to capture a rare and enchanting moment. The sun, just peeking through the rainclouds on the horizon, cast a warm, golden glow that contrasted beautifully with the cool tones of the waterfall and the lush green landscape. The interplay of light and shadow created a scene that felt almost otherworldly, as if stepping into a dream.
The low angle of the setting sun illuminated the underside of the cave, enhancing the rich textures of the rock and creating a natural frame for the vista beyond. The soft light of the sunset reflected off the wet stone path, leading the eye towards the distant horizon where the golden light meets the deep blue of the sky.
The combination of the waterfall's powerful descent, the lush green surroundings, and the glowing sunset made this a moment of pure magic. The stitching of five frames allowed me to capture the full width of this scene, encompassing the grandeur of Seljalandsfoss, the vibrant colors of the sunset, and the serene beauty of the Icelandic landscape.
Standing behind Seljalandsfoss, with the sound of water crashing down and the sight of the sun breaking through the clouds, was an experience that words can hardly describe. This photograph, however, comes close to conveying the awe and wonder of that moment. It serves as a reminder of the incredible beauty that nature offers, especially in a place as wild and untouched as Iceland.
